Play like Phil Mickelson: The Callaway X-Tour Wedges

filesmall Equipment | commentmall Written by BigRed

Phil Mickelson is known as THE best short-game player in the world of golf.

Many people refer to him as a magician when he displays his exceptional skills around the greens. While you may never be able to match Phil with respect to natural talent, practise time and experience, you can certainly copy a part of his success and improve your golf game by using the same equipment he’s got in his bag.

The Callaway X-Tour Wedges have been developed based on Phil’s personal input and offer tour-proven precision for the more accomplished golfer. I did shave two strokes off my handicap since I got two of these half a year ago due to a vastly improved short game. The fantastic classic design is the work of legendary clubmaker Roger Cleveland who probably produced the best-looking and best-performing wedges that ever left the Callaway factory in Carlsbad, CA.

The club comes in various combinations of loft and bounce angle to fit most golfers’ preferences and turf conditions. Needless to say that most of these combinations are avaible to both right- and left-handed golfers.

Roger Cleveland designed the 58- and 60-degree versions with the special PM (Phil Mickelson) Grind and added Mack Daddy Grooves for the ultimate in spin, trajectory and distance control. While the PM Grind allows for a maximum in playability around the greens, the unique Mack Daddy Grooves are aggressively-sized but conforming grooves that maximize spin, trajectory and distance control. Depending on the golf course he is playing on Phil has up to four of these clubs in his bag.

If you are interested in trying these fabulous clubs I recommend to get them directly from Callaway Golf at http://shop.callawaygolf.com. The official Callaway online shop offers excellent customer service via a toll-free phone number, a two year warranty on all golf club purchases, a generous return policy and various payment and shipping options. I’ve tried it myself and was never disappointed!

  • I think it’s more than strange that Callaway has the best left-handed player under contract, but doesn’t offer the complete range of wedges – and other clubs – for left-handed amateurs. Why do I have to “take it or leave it” with only one bounce while right-handed players get to choose? You figure that out…

  • Phil, I am 73 years young. I have watched you for a long time. It seems you have a tendancy to tighten up when trying to close a tournament. Quit thinking and go back to having fun. Also you have a great little family. I will be watching Friend. olaf

  • Phil, Iam 74 years old and play from the same side you do.
    Suggestions.
    Fire your two coaches.
Have Callaway make you a putter like the Cameron you used early on.
Throw away the # 9 putter and be your old self.
Keep up the training program. Results look good.

    Good luck in the future.
    Doug
